I was fortunate to live across the street and know Don for 15 years. He brought joy and humor to all he met. We shared a love of puns and old Bob Steele jokes. He instilled a love of golf in 3 of my grandchildren giving free lessons with unlimited golf balls at his driving range and using quarters to motivate his tips. I will miss our front porch talks but especially his loving spirit.

I only had the privilege of knowing Don a short time...just the last few years we have wintered at Heritage Oaks. Over dinner one evening, I was struck by his humility and sincerity...he had accomplished so much but was very soft-spoken and self-deprecating...a true gentleman. I remember him saying that if he could have the first chance to teach golf to someone before they had been taught and practiced bad habits, he thought he could give them a pretty good chance of becoming a decent golfer. I asked him what he thought was most fundamental to the game of golf, and he said "If a person would just swing the club...not worry about the path the club makes on the backswing, or cocking the wrists or shifting weight...just make a nice swing with the club. Every kid knows how to do that, almost instinctively, but teachers try to make it so technical...just have them swing it."
I wish I had known him longer...

Don Gliha was a good friend of my late husband,(divorced) Todd Potter. They grew up together in Manchester and proud they were of their heritage. After Todd’s and my son, Jason was born, Don, Todd Jason, and I all lived together in an apartment in Stamford. Don is Jason’s godfather. I love the memories of that time, laughing, silliness, and Don and Todd’s enduring friendship. Don was kind, decent l. This generations has passed but will never be forgotten.
