He was my doctor when I was a kid. I liked him. I went to school with Joe Jr.

I am terribly sad to hear of your father’s passing. Every Thanksgiving morning, we would arrive in his driveway with a car full of runners and a bottle of Beaujolais . He would enthusiastically greet us and that year’s collection of strangers in their running costumes and garb. It was a terrific tradition that kicked off the holiday. As he advanced in age, the annual visit became more meaningful. And, with the pandemic, 2020 was the first time in over 30 years that we didn’t run the race and visit your dad. I’m so incredibly sad that 2021 will be the end to our tradition. Please know that your dad will be missed.

Dr. Danyliw was our primary car doctor for many years and he was truly the standard for what a family doctor should be. He will be greatly missed, and we are grateful for the wonderful care he always gave us.

I am greatly saddened by the passing of your dad. We played tennis together back in the 80's, He and Mac, against Pete LoMaglio and myself. Loved playing with him, he was a great player and an even greater person. He was my doctor until we moved to the Charleston, SC area back in 2018. He blamed me and our tennis for his bad ankle. He suffered a severe twisted ankle sometime in the '80s during one of our games. After missing two days of tennis to recover, we pressured him to come back and play, which he did. His claim is that he should have given himself a couple more days to recover and that all his ankle problems in later life are due to his playing tennis pre-maturely.
I still tell people that I played tennis with Harry Truman's flight surgeon, and will continue to tell my friends about what a great person your dad was.

Dear Family,
I have known Joe as a skilled and talented physician for over 40 years as we both practiced at Saint Francis. Got to know him much better in this last year as part of his medical team. He was always very cheerful and optimistic. I really admired his bravery as he faced all of his medical problems. He knew how to fight the good fight and when it done to rest.
We will all miss him!
Sincerely,
Dr. Joe Sappington

Doctor Danyliw, what an amazing doctor and amazing person. Thanks for being my life-long confidant and care giver, imparting invaluable life lessons and words of wisdom to my wife and I throughout the years. Though like many males, I didn’t call on my good doctor often unless absolutely necessary, I did very much enjoy your humor and wit during our short visits. Guiding my recovery from a broken collar bone suffered at my last football game at Mt. Nebo against South Catholic, and through our many ailments throughout the years, you were always there to restore us back to good health. You will be dearly missed. RIP as you are reunited with your dear Halina.

When I was child asthmatic in the early 50's Joe made house calls to our family residence in Mayberry Village. He was there. (and often didn't get paid). When I was in a serious motorcycle accident as a teenager, he was there at the hospital. When my dad died 20 years ago, he was there for my mom, sister (Coleen), brother (William) and I. When I visited, he would always ask if I would be insulted if he told me a lawyer joke. Before I could answer he would tell me the joke and we would both laugh. He was always there with a great sense of humor, When his brother died he told me "He was a General in the army you know". I said "I know you've told me several times". He was always there with a story or joke to make the visit more personal. He was proud of his family, especially his 8 children. As my mom aged with various maladies, he was there for her. Often lifting her spirits when they engaged in some brotherly/sisterly repartee. He was there for my brother when he had health issues, and expertly diagnosed and treated those issues. When my mom died at the age of 91 he was there, again, for my sister, brother and I. Consoling and empathizing. When my brother and I learned of his retirement, we both cried. For over 70 years I and my family were served by him. He is still there for us, in our hearts and prayers.

Both my parents, Frank and Carolyn Dupuy, were patients of Dr. Danyliw for more than 40 years. They had total respect for him, with his amazing sense of humanity and caring, shown in so many ways over the years. My father was so appreciative that he came to my mother's wake. They would want the family to know how much he had helped them over the decades.
