Obituary of Leo A. St. Michel

Leo Alfred St. Michel died May 31, 2021. He was born February 27, 1928 to Leo T. and Alice St. Michel of Red Lake Falls, MN. He received a BS in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota and an MS in sanitary engineering from the University of Minnesota.

He is survived by four children and their families: Barbara (James Hewitt) of Oswego, NY; Maureen (Grant Manning) of Glastonbury; Nancy of Watertown, MA; and Michael (Jennifer) of Seekonk, MA; and five grandchildren, Duncan, Jeffrey, Sean, Sara, and Charlie. He was affectionately known as “GPL” to his grandchildren and their friends. He is also survived by his brother Loren St. Michel of St. Paul, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Leo worked for the United States Public Health Service in Kansas City, MO and Boston, MA. In 1965 he joined Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) for what was expected to be a 22 month assignment in Dhaka, Bangladesh. However, 30 years and numerous overseas assignments, primarily in southeast Asia, he finally retired from CDM. He continued as a consultant well into the 2000s. His family accompanied him to most of his posts.

Leo was an avid photographer who documented all of his travels. His love of photography and travel inspired his grandchildren. He is also remembered for his love of scotch and cigars.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Dunstan’s Church in Glastonbury on June 21, 2021 at 10 am. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
