Obituary of Daniel Mark Daly

Daniel Mark Daly, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 22nd 2021 after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer complicated by a recent heart attack.  He struggled with auto-immune encephalitis over the last few years.

Dan is pre-deceased by his father Daniel Daly, mother Margaret Long Daly and brother Lawrence Daly.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Suzette Reiser Daly, his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Kara, Shane and Scarlett Sherman, his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Chris, Christina and Alora Daly, his sister, Kathleen Daly and his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Daly.

Danny was a '69 graduate of East Catholic in Manchester, CT and a '73 graduate of St. Michael's College in VT.  He enjoyed an early retirement from Metro North Railroad and discovered biking and kayaking, which became treasured daily activities with Suzette for years. From grade school at St. Rose, to Burlington to Grand Central Station, Dan made lifelong friendships wherever he went.

As you all know, Danny loved music.  As early as the age of 4, his sister, Kathy, would find him listening to 45 LPs for hours on end.  Kara and Chris have memories of sitting at the top of the stairs listening to their dad record music with his friends long into the night.  We all benefitted from his encyclopedic knowledge of music and the meaningful playlists he created for the countless parties and events we've all been a part of (he's turning over in his grave that a sentence in his obituary ended with a preposition).  He left a touching musical legacy with his granddaughters; Alora got the Ovation - the first guitar he ever purchased and the one he picked up to play every day and Scarlett got the Danelectro - "the sparkly one.”

The family would like to thank the hospice nurses and staff from Masonicare who provided compassionate care and support over the last weeks of Dan's life.

We are supporting the research lab that helped Dan when he was sick.  Instead of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Dr. Jenny Linnoila's Encephalitis Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and either mailed to the Mass General Development Office at 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston MA 02114 or by visiting https://because.massgeneral.org/DannyDaly.

There will be a celebration of Dan's life at the Hollow at the Manchester Country Club located at 305 South Main Street in Manchester, CT from 3-6 on Thursday, June 3rd.
