Gregory Schwabe

Obituary of Gregory E. Schwabe

God’s good and faithful servant Gregory Schwabe became one of His angels on May 13, 2021 after a brief illness.

Greg, fondly referred to as “Pops”, was born in Castine, ME on March 10, 1953. He was welcomed into God’s kingdom by his parents Francis and Elayne Schwabe. He graduated from Bucksport High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Southern Maine, where he met the love of his life Denise Boudreau whom he married on May 24, 1975. They shared 47 years together and in that time, Greg and Denise were known to have many adventures and nurtured a beautiful life & family which was his greatest source of pride.

Greg had a profound work ethic and served as an elementary school educator for five years in Maine before finding his professional calling and success in insurance marketing, earning respect and accolades from all in his industry.  Pops believed in giving back and to that end, he spent many years coaching youth basketball, working for Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society by helping people access assistance, and coordinating the Ice Cream Booth at the Saint Bridget Carnival.

Pops had a love of sports that included coaching, playing and spectating. Although Pops routinely mentioned that golf was a good walk spoiled, he enjoyed regularly playing with his brothers in law and annually volunteered as a hole marshall at the Travelers PGA Golf Tournament.  He also enjoyed bowling, basketball, softball, and enjoyed daily walks in brightly colored sneakers.

His legacy includes his four children, Kevin Schwabe (Caitlin), Angela Flanagan (Kevin), Lindsay Schwabe, all of Manchester, and Jordan Schwabe of Virginia Beach. He is now the guardian angel of his nine grandchildren, his source of endless pride and recipients of countless jokes and silly nicknames, Emily, Andrew, and Claire Schwabe, Ethan and Rowan Geiger, River, Sawyer and Asher Kirol-Schwabe, and Rylan Schwabe.  He was especially adored by his parents in law, Lionel and Irene Boudreau who called him “their one and only.”

He will continue to be loved by his sister Lynne MacEwen (Dana) and brother Kenneth Schwabe (Jeannie), many nieces, nephews and countless colleagues and friends.

Greg was many things to many people, but above all, he was a man who was dedicated and committed to his family. His unwavering faithfulness to us will continue to guide our lives as we aim to live as he would have wanted us to. A celebration of his life will be held on May 19th at 11AM at St. Bridget’s Church 74 Main Street, Manchester. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.  For online condolences please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
