Jane Miner

Obituary of Jane Miner

Lisbeth Jane Miner, a much-loved sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend passed away surrounded by her family on March 25, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Hartford on June 2, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Helen (Straub) Miner and lived in Manchester and West Hartford. Jane was a proud member of the Harc family, which provided many opportunities for her to live a rich and fulfilling life. Her artistic skills were encouraged, and she had a deep love of music. She was always offering to help whether it was folding socks, putting dishes away or just cleaning up. Jane enjoyed an unequalled collection of cookbooks and needed little encouragement in identifying a recipe she wanted to try. She was always up for the next adventure, rarely turning down the chance to go out for a ride to the store, to church, or just to see the sights! Most importantly she greeted everyone with her sweet smile, and she touched the lives of so many with her kind and generous spirit.

Jane is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patrice and Robert Calnen, with whom she made her home in West Hartford. She also leaves her nephews, Nicholas and his wife Jennifer of Darien and Gregory Calnen of West Hartford; her great-nieces, Addison, Grace and Lily of Darien; her extended Miner family, Susan Lyons, David Miner, Deborah Miner and Sara Slitt; her extended Calnen family, Larry Miclette and his children of Glastonbury. Jane’s family will be forever grateful to the staff at the Comprehensive Women’s Center at St. Francis Hospital, which took such loving care of her throughout her 16-month battle with breast cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 6th at 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street in Manchester on Monday, April 5th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.

To honor Jane’s legacy, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jane’s Knights (www.JanesKnights.com), her Harc Walk team. All proceeds go towards supporting Harc’s 70-year tradition of providing services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
