Elizabeth Warmolts

Obituary of Elizabeth Warmolts

Elizabeth Warmolts, 84, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late James L. Warmolts died Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at her home.  Born in Hartford on September 19, 1936, she was the youngest of six daughters of the late Carmelo and Nicolanna (Vasquez) Merlino.

As a child she loved singing and dancing, helping her father in his extensive vegetable garden and checking on the progress of his homemade wine with him. She attended East Hartford schools and graduated high school in 1955.

She met her Jim, the love of her life, in the spring of that year at the Astor Theater Roller Rink in East Hartford. They were married on May 16, 1959 and were inseparable for the next 52 years.

When their daughter Marybeth came along her family was complete. She then spent many years willingly driving Marybeth to physical therapy and doctor appointments and to school, all the way through college.

In addition to taking care of her family, her great loves were attending daily Mass, spending time in prayer nightly at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Mary’s Church in East Hartford and helping others in any way that she could. She always thought of others before herself and didn’t wait to be asked if she saw a need, whether large or small.

She sang in United Choirs, taught CCD at St. Isaac Jogues in East Hartford, and made rosaries for distribution both locally and around the world. She felt a special calling to help mothers considering abortion to choose life for their children and spent many years doing that work. She made three pilgrimages to religious sites in Italy, Portugal, and France in 1999, 2000 and 2002, something she never expected to be able to do, which brought her great joy.

She loved being outdoors in nature, especially at the cottage with Jim and Marybeth; her dogs, cats and horses; flowers and plants of all kinds; Italian food; a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and donut to start her day; and the big blue station wagon. She will be loved and missed forever.

She is survived by her daughter Marybeth Warmolts of East Hartford, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.  In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and William Branscome, Mary and Patrick Hellandbrand, Beatrice and Petronillo Sacco,  Adeline and George Bennett and Helen and Don Palmer.

Heartfelt thanks to her special nieces and nephew, and to her “angel” friends for their constant love, prayers, help and support during this past year.
