Mildred Scarpace

Obituary of Mildred A. Scarpace

Mildred “Millie” Arruda Scarpace (nee, Howarth) passed away on February 23rd, 2021. She was 95.

She loved her family and friends and leaves happy memories for all.

She loved to laugh and tell stories. Her memories go back to her youth and dancing at the USO during WWII. She had a great sense of humor and loved entertaining her friends with her funniest stories.

Millie's long life was rich with true friendships, laughter and love.

Her beautiful spirit, creativity and sense of humor enriched the lives of all who new her.

More than anything, Millie loved being a mom, and learned early on that driving her kids around gave her the day to day details of their lives. Packing the younger kids in the car and volunteering to drive led to many an adventure.

She loved being surrounded by her children and their friends. All were welcome in her home.

Millie was born in New Bedford, MA. on November 12th, 1925. She married Louis “Ducky” Arruda and they moved to Connecticut in 1947. They raised four daughters and one son, in Manchester.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their families.

Sadly, she was predeceased by her son, Paul, by one week.

She leaves
Her daughter, Linda Arruda Wilkinson, her husband Don of Glastonbury Ct and her granddaughters Danielle Bertolini and Lindsay Dickson of Charleston, SC.
Her daughter, Susan Arruda Riddell, her husband Frazier and grandson Evan of Canton, MS.
Her daughter, Anne Arruda Ansaldi, and her partner, Bob Garneau of Manchester, CT.
Her daughter, Joann Arruda, and her partner Tim Wielgus of Catskill, NY.

Her grandson, Samuel Louis Arruda and his mom, Carlyn Arruda.

Her beloved nieces and nephews in New Bedford will remember Auntie Mildred as the family story teller. She loved them dearly. They are the children of her only sister, Phyllis, and her husband, John Harrington.

She was predeceased by her husband Louis Arruda, father of her 5 children and Anthony Scarpace, her second husband. Also, her sons-in-law Steven Dickson and Andrew Ansaldi Jr.

Private services will be Thursday, March 4th, 2021 at South United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM.

Donations on behalf of Millie can be forwarded to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
