At a young age I wanted to be a lawyer like him. He would ask me complicated questions to see how I would answer. He was always interested in what I had to say. I admired him. He was a wonderful man and I wish I got to spend more time with him. I will cherish my childhood memories with him. I imagine Uncle Dom, Uncle Sal and my dad Marco sitting around a table eating and laughing. I miss them all.

Sending condolences to the family of Dom Squatrito. I grew up down the street from the Squatrito family and was good friends with Marco. I went to many MHS football games and swim meets to watch Dom and Sal. Also saw Dom play football at Wesleyan. Last time I saw Dom was at Marco's wedding. As a young man the Squatrito family were very special to me and I loved every opportunity to be with them. Mary, Sal, Sal Jr, Dom and Marco have a warm spot in my heart.

When I first met Dominic over 30 years ago, my impression of him was that he was an individual that was bigger than life. He so enjoyed his work and his family and it showed. Dom was an individual whos mere presence commanded attention and while his personality was bigger than he was he always treated you as an equal.
A man who will be missed by family, friends, colleagues and scholars alike.

Our deepest sympathies to Carla, Sandro, Sergio, Tracy, and all Dom's family. We remember Dom as the very accomplished figurehead of our extended Manchester family. But what I mostly remember with a smile is the challenge to understand his jokes, usually spoken in Italian, whenever the Barbato and Squatrito families would get together. Such a distinguished gentleman in public, such a kind man in private. May his family find comfort in the wonderful memories and impressive legacy he left behind. With love, Chris and Margo (nee Barbato) Williamson

My condolences to the family. He was a genuinely nice guy with a sense of humor that’s not expected for a judge. Very down to earth. I will cherish the memories I had working for the courts and visiting his Chambers. He made you feel like part of the family.

To the Sqautrito Family,
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dominic. I had the pleasure of speaking with him only a few times, but his sense of humor shone brightly. It is so wonderful to read about how much he accomplished with his life. The humble way in which he spoke did not reflect his great success.
I hope that you find peace during your time of mourning.

I first met Dominic when he was counsel for the Senate Majority Leader, Joe Lieberman, and I was the new Senate Chair of the Energy Committee. We had a particularly difficult legislative problem and we were dealing with it in the Leader's office. Dominic came up with the solution and I was immensely impressed with his thoughtful and reasoned approach. I think he helped inspire me to go to law school while serving in the Senate. He was a very bright and steady presence. He was always fun to be around.

Dominic was a great public servant because he was a deeply good man. He always remembered the less fortunate and was dedicated to upholding the rights of all, as when he helped the Journal Inquirer bring a federal lawsuit to protect the First Amendment rights of a prisoner at Somers State Prison who had been writing a regular column for the newspaper and was being punished for it by the prison administration.
That was not a formula for popularity but Dom was calmly fearless about such things.
How lucky Connecticut was that he became a federal judge, and how lucky Donna and I were that he was our friend. We too will remember him always.
Our respects and sympathy to Carla and the whole Squatrito family.
-- Chris and Donna Powell, Manchester, Connecticut.

Not only a brilliant lawyer/judge but a truly fair and honorable human being. The world and the courts need more Dom Squatrito’s. He will be missed by all. Rest in heaven my friend.

My sincere condolences to Carla, Sandro, Sergio, and all the grandchildren.
Dominic always spoke about how fortunate he was to be able to spend time with his grandchildren and family. We will miss his toasts before meals, which always spoke about giving to your family and appreciating what you have. He always took time out of his schedule to be there for his kids and grandchildren's events and put that ahead of his work. He was an inspiration to me and will be missed dearly.

Dear Carla and family,
I am so very sorry to read of Dominic’s passing. I will always remember Dom’s hearty laugh and jolly personality. He was one of the first persons I worked with when starting my State Capitol career as Secretary of the Executive Nominations Committee. He was one of the “good guys” and, of course, Lil Bayer Marlow’s adopted son.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you mourn his loss.

Our deepest sympathy to Carla, Sandro, Sergio and all the Squatrito family. Dominic was one of the wisest, kindest and most generous people we ever knew. Dom’s skills as a brilliant lawyer, politician and judge were exceeded only by the kindness, warmth, and compassion that he extended to every person lucky enough to meet him. He leaves a wonderful legacy of service to his town, state and country, and the thousands of people he helped throughout his career. Rest in peace, Dom!

I met Dominic when I was a young chef and my brother worked in his law firm... then I worked for Carla at her factory for a year in the 90’s... it was a grand experience.
I sat with Dom many times and shared dinner at his home and in restaurants. There always seemed to be a wedge of Parm Reggiano to start the meal.
Dom once told me... in very serious terms...”between marriage and death...become what you want to be but remember...your only responsibility is to take care of your wife and family...your own needs are secondary and to a degree selfish”
It was great advice ... my condolences to the family... you are lifelong friends

Judge Squatrito was a wonderful human being. He and my late father were close friends. When I was getting into politics 20 years ago, I remember my Dad telling me that, if I’m lucky, I’ll be able to count my true friends on one hand at the end of the day. He said Dom Squatrito was a true friend to him. I remember him telling me that Dom would burst through doors for him, lay down in front of a bus for him or scream into a megaphone down Main Street telling everyone to vote for him. I’ll never forget all the time Judge Squatrito spent with me on so many occasions talking about my legal and political career. He always said ‘all that stuff is great stuff but who cares?’ “When are you going to start a family?” “You need to support your wife’s career!” “Be her partner at home!” Then we ate cannolis and I went on my way. He was a great mentor and role model to many young civic-minded people. My condolences to Carla, Sandro, Sergio and all of the Squatritos. Ryan Barry
