Obituary of Richard James Allely

Richard James “Jim” Allely 78 of Vernon, beloved husband of Linda (Venezia) Allely passed away peacefully on Sunday December 13, 2020 at Manchester Manor. Jim was born February 5, 1942 in Manchester. He was the son of the late Richard and Helen Kayser Allely. After Graduating from Manchester High School he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University and a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. Jim was a teacher at Tolland High School for 33 years and was the department head of Industrial Arts and Technology Program. He is still fondly remembered by former students and colleagues for his corny jokes, puns, and caring ways.

Jim was a tenor drummer for many years with the Stuart Highlanders Bag Pipe Band and the Manchester Police & Fire Bag Pipe Band. He loved marching in parades and attending Scottish festivals. He was also an avid fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball team.

Along with his wife Linda he’s survived by his two children Amy Ray of Vernon and David and his wife Juliana Allely of Park City, UT: his three granddaughters Ally Ray and Katlin and Sheridan Allely: two brothers in law Fredereck Venezia and his wife Dyann, David Ristow and his wife Marilyn: two sister in laws Jane Allely and Susan Whalen and her husband Michael: and several nieces and nephews. Besides both parents Jim was predeceased by his brother David Allely, a sister Antoinette ”Toni” Ristow, his niece Tracy Allely-Vetter and brother in law James Venezia.

Jim was known as “PopPop” to his cherished granddaughters. The girls were the light of his life and he delighted in talking about all of their activities and accomplishments.

Jim’s family send their appreciation to the staff at both Fox Hill Center & Manchester Manor for their kindness and care over the past year and a half. A special thanks to his cardiologist Dr. Hazar Dahhan, nurses Chassidy, Kim and recreation staff Lisa and Paige at the Manor and nurse Stephanie and P.A. Candy at Fox Hill for their constant support and care. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date when everyone can gather safely.
