Obituary of Edward C. Klucewicz

Edward Charles Klucewicz, 99 years old, of Manchester, CT, died on December 9, 2020 in Glastonbury, CT.

A graveside service is planned with Military Honours at Saint James Cemetery in Manchester, CT on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 12:00pm. The Tierney Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Edward was born at home with the help of a midwife to Michael and Eleanor Lazowski Klucewicz, Polish immigrants, on February 20,1921 in Hartford, CT. He attended SS. Cyril & Methodius (Polish) School in Hartford, CT and then East Hartford Public Schools when his Father purchased a home for his growing family in East Hartford.

During WWII Edward was inducted into the Army on July 7,1943. He began active service with the 73rd Air Service Group, Headquarters and Base Service Squadron. Much of his first years in the military were spent at Scott Field in Harlingen, TX. In March 1945 he departed for the Pacific. Edward served as a Military Policeman 677 on the island of Guam, Asiatic Pacific Theater, supporting the Air offensive Japan and Eastern Mandates. He was a proficient Sharpshooter- Carbine and Pistol. Before leaving the service he received several decorations and citations and was discharged on March 7, 1946 at Fort Devens, MA. In later years he was an active member of the Army and Navy Club in Manchester, CT and the VFW.

He worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 37 years, beginning his career as a Milling Machine Operator, Over time, his talent was recognized and he was awarded several promotions, finally reaching the designation of Foreman. He took the “Golden Handshake” at the age of 56 and retired. With his longevity, he often said, “At this age, I've beat the system!”

He enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially fly fishing, often tying his own flies), gardening, skiing and roaming the back roads of CT and nearby states. For years Edward was a considerate and tireless caregiver for his his wives, Irene and Adrienne. He belonged to Saint Roses Church in East Hartford until he married Irene F. Surowiec and moved to Manchester, CT. He remained a member of Saint James Church for the remainder of his life.

Edward is survived by his children Donna M. Klucewicz and her partner Peter Campbell, I. Michele(Myke) Klucewicz and her husband Charles Bohling, and Edward M. Klucewicz, his grandchildren Taylor A. Pratt, Alexa M. Merrill and her husband Alex Merrill, Aria G. Klucewicz, Solange N. Bohling, Irina Klucewicz Shaffer and her husband Dan, and Rachel Klucewicz, and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Eleanor Klucewicz, first wife, Irene F. Surowiec; second wife Adrienne Sullivan Stack, her 3 children, many grand children, and several great grandchildren; and his “Sweet Heart” Dorothy Fisher and her family. Edward outlived his siblings, Walter Klucewicz, Harriet Klucewicz Roe, Helen Klucewicz Cook, and Stanley Klucewicz.
