Robert McMahon

Obituary of Robert McMahon

Robert J McMahon, 85, of Manchester, CT, the son of the late John and Anna McMahon, passed away on October 26, 2020, due to complications related to a broken heart.

Robert was born in Hartford on February 2, 1935. He graduated from Weaver High School and continued on to receive a Bachelors degree from Trinity College.

Robert was married to Carol (Riley) McMahon on August 13, 1960. The couple moved to Manchester in 1966 to raise a family. Robert worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for most of his adult life. Robert was an engaged father, actively involved with all his children’s activities, never missing a Little League game or recital. He was a huge sports fan always ready to watch an important game, which most seemed to be, much to Carol’s chagrin. Robert loved the Boston sports teams and UConn athletics but was as known to enjoy a Yankees loss as much, if not, more so than a Red Sox win. Further, from Little League to the World Series, the umpires were always wrong.

Robert lost his loving wife Carol just six months ago, on April 20, 2020. It was on the day that the couple would have been celebrating their 60th anniversary that Robert suffered a cardiac event which began his decline in health.

Robert was very social in nature; with a gregarious laugh and brilliant smile, people knew the party didn’t truly start until he arrived. He was very involved in all the family gatherings, helping with the decorating, the cooking and always carving the thanksgiving turkey, while humbly leaving the accolades to his wife Carol. Robert was an accomplished artist with many of his cartoon sketches adorning the bedrooms of his grandchildren.

Robert’s life was a testament to the value of hard work and loving relationships. He is survived by his daughter Maricarol Wooding (husband David), sons Robert McMahon Jr. and Michael (wife Maureen) grandchildren, Casey, Erin, Greg, Jessica, Sean and Mary, and other family and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his brothers John and Walter.

Due to the current pandemic circumstances a small private ceremony will be held at St. James Cemetery in Manchester, CT.
