Obituary of Frances R. Idzkowski

Frances R. Idzkowski of Manchester died Thursday (September 22, 2005) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in North Franklin, CT, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Idzkowski. She was a graduate of Windham High School and the William W. Backus Hospital School of Nursing, where she enrolled as a U.S. Cadet Nurse. A communicant of the Church of the Assumption, she was a Eucharistic Minister, a trustee, a member and past president of the Ladies Guild, a member of the choir, a member of the Catholic Council of Women, a member and past director of the American Diabetes Association, a member of AARP Chapter 1275 and former Trip Committee Chairman of AARP and a member of the Manchester Senior Citizens. She also held membership in the William W. Backus Hospital Alumnae Association. Fran was a Head Nurse at Backus Hospital, later becoming Administrator of a nursing home in South Glastonbury. She worked in the intensive care unit at Manchester Memorial Hospital, and then implemented (with another nurse) the Diabetes Education Program at the hospital. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Charles Deuel of Eastford and nieces and nephews, Frank and Marge Stramowski of Brewster, MA, Geraldine and Stephen Turney of Carmel, Indiana, Paul and Gladys Bujak of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jane and Arthur Calfee of Falmouth, MA, Thomas and Cheryl Kielick of Fallston, Maryland, Theodore and Donna Delude of Auburn, Washington, Jeanne and Dennis Newton of Bend, Oregon, William and Nancy Deuel of Windham, CT and Linda and Henry Paredes of Manchester, CT and great-nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Stramowski, Mary Bujak, Jean Kielick, and Stella Delude. Funeral service will be held on Monday (September 26, 2005) at 9:30 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the Church of the Assumption, Adams St. South, Manchester, burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Willimantic.
