Obituary of James Geer

James "Jim� Cleveland Geer, 86, of Brooker, Florida passed away peacefully, Saturday (Sept. 17, 2005) at Marlborough Health Care in Marlborough, CT after a brief illness. He was born August 3, 1919 in New London, CT son of the late Frank H. and Gertrude (Molonson) Geer. He lived and attended school in New London and Manchester prior to entering the Navy. He had made Bolton, CT his home for over 30 years then after his retirement he migrated to Florida 20 years ago. He owned and operated Geer Electronics as a Master Electrician for over 20 years, servicing many small and large companies in the Greater Hartford area. He also worked as a radio engineer for WPOP, WEXT and WTYM for many years; He retired from Stanley Works in New Britain as an Industrial Engineer. He was a communicant of St. Patrick�s Church in Gainesville, FL and St. Maurice Church in Bolton before moving to Florida. He was past member of the Knight�s of Columbus in CT, assisted with Altar Boy outings and offered his electrical services frequently. He served his country in the National Guard in 1940 and in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in World War II and the Korean Conflict with 13 years of service. While in the service he attended Texas A&M University and multiple naval aviation and radio electronic schools all over the country. He then taught basic and advanced electronics at several Naval Aviation Schools. He was proud to be called a veteran his whole life. He served on the USS Bunker Hill and the USS FDR. He was married July 19, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas and he was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Ernestine "Tina� (Zeller) Geer, three years ago. He leaves to mourn his passing his three beloved daughters; Carol DesJardins and her husband Joseph of Vernon, Kathleen Gaffey and her husband Thomas of Amston and Maria Geer of Brooker, FL. Being predeceased by his two beloved sons; Lance Corporal Stephen James Geer and John Leo Geer, broke his heart. He also leaves a daughter in law Kate Geer of Gainesville, FL. His legacy lives on with his seven precious grandchildren; Becky (DesJardins) Byron and her husband Thomas of Enfield, Joel DesJardins of Vernon, Lt, jg. Kellee (Gaffey) Nolan and her husband Christopher of Seattle, WA, Thomas Gaffey, III of Chaplin, Melissa and Elizabeth Geer of Dunnellon, FL and Laura Geer of Gainesville, FL. He also leaves six precious great grandchildren; Alexander and Thomas Byron, Casey and Brandon Peterson, Amy and Emily Young. He also leaves to mourn his passing his beloved brothers and sister; Donald Geer and his wife Norma of East Hartford, Harold Geer and his wife Martha of Glastonbury, Doris Stavens and her husband Emil of Vernon and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Jim will be known for the love of his family and he will be sadly missed. He had a hard work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. He was also very proud to have built two homes. He loved to travel and take care of all the animals that strayed into his yard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday (Sept. 22, 2005) 10:00 a.m. at St. Maurice Church 32 Hebron Road Bolton, followed by burial with military honors in the family plot at St. James Cemetery, Broad St. Manchester. Family and friends may call Wednesday (Sept 21, 2005) from 5-8 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center Street Manchester.
