I just saw this notice of Al's passing, and I send my sincere condolences to Michael and Peter and family and to Al's many friends. Al was a wonderful friend to Jack, me, Daisy, Ollie, and Sammy as he stopped in every morning for many years after his walk for a cup of tea and a chat. I am so sad.
Sincerely,
Sandy Sawitzke

I met Aloysius in 2015 while he was getting a bit of physical therapy. He was so kind and gentle, witty and intelligent! We always looked forward to his visits to the clinic! He had mentioned a book he had written of his life and I asked him if I might have a copy. He gave me a signed copy of his memoir, "From Rags to Patches." It was a beautifully written story of his youth! My mom, who is the same age as Aloysius, has few short term memories these days, but when I read excerpts to her from his book (writing about the hupmobile or reading the "funnies" on Sundays), her face lights up with joy at remembering those same things in her childhood! I am so grateful that I had the pleasure to meet this wonderful human being with such a warm heart and always a twinkle in his eye! He will be fondly remembered! Kathy Rusch

I’m flooded with such emotion on hearing this news. My favorite English teacher, an amazing storyteller and great listener. Shared some time with Al and family in past years on Bolton Lake.
An amazing human, we have truly lost an icon
My sympathies to you, Mike
, Peter and families.
Just know that the memory of your Dad will always bring a smile, smirk or chuckle to all who knew him

I have never known a finer gentleman and teacher than Al. I had had the pleasure of knowing him since the 1960’s when we were both active in organizing the Connecticut Federation of Teachers and as a a fellow faculty member of the English Department at Manchester Community College. I savor fond memories of our many conversations in the steam room at the European Health Spa.
