Obituary of Anthony J Choma

Anthony (Tony) J. Choma, Jr. passed away (not from COVID-19) on Sunday, April 19, 2020 peacefully at home with his family in Vernon, CT.  Tony was born on August 31, 1937 in Detroit, MI.  He was the oldest son of the late Anthony and Anna Choma.  After graduating from Manchester, CT High School, Class of 1955, Tony served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965.  As a young man, Tony worked as a camp counselor on Cow Island located on Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, NH.  From that experience, he developed a love of the Lake and has spent time on it over the last 25 years with family and friends. 

He was employed at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, CT for 45 years as an Engineering Manager.  At the end of his career at Hamilton, he worked on special projects including several months in Toulouse, France, and a year in, Florida.  His wife Nancy accompanied him on these assignments.

He served on the Vernon Zoning Board of Appeals for 6 years.  He was a life-member of the Rockville, CT Elks.  Tony had a passion for hiking in the White Mountains with his family, skiing Tuckerman Ravine with his son Chris, camping, and going to the Annual Hershey Swap Meet with his wife and son Tony along with going to book auctions. 

He loved his family dearly, and with his extensive knowledge on all subjects, he enjoyed quizzing new and old friends.  Always challenging their knowledge and conviction.  Tony enjoyed family gatherings from family picnics to holidays and birthday parties and Christmas day at his nephew, Kevin’s house.  He always had a dog in his life from Nosey, Tucson, and Holly. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy Choma, his son Anthony J. Choma III and wife Diane of New Freedom, PA, his son Christopher P. Choma and wife Laura, and his grandchildren Grace and Cole of North Reading, MA.  He is also survived by 4 of his siblings, Thomas, Maryann, Stephen, and Susan.  His brother Philip preceded him in death.  He was adored by his 12 nieces and nephews.

A private funeral will be held with family.  Tony will be buried at St. James Cemetery in Manchester, CT.
