Obituary of Mary Z. Shea

Mary Z. Shea, 99, of Manchester, passed away on Wednesday (May 25, 2005) following a short illness. She was born in Vernon, CT the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Myers) Shea and had resided in Manchester most of her life. She was predeceased by her brothers John F. Shea and his wife Irene, William J. Shea and his wife Frances, Walter T. Shea and his wife Alice and her sister Catherine. Mary is survived by her nephews John F. Shea, Jr. and his wife Polly, Thomas P. Shea and his wife Ann, William J. Shea Jr., Brendan Shea and his wife Pat and a niece Maureen Charlebois and her husband Arthur. She is also survived by great nephews and nieces Martin Shea, Kevin Shea, Daniel Shea, Christine Shea Riordan, Kathleen Bursztyn, Timothy Charlebois, Brian Charlebois, Elizabeth Charlebois, Peter Shea, Geraldine Belmore, Elizabeth Fries, Brendan Shea Jr., Catherine Bybee and seventeen great-great nephews and nieces. Mary greatly enjoyed her visits to Ireland, the birthplace of her mother, and meeting her many cousins who still reside there. She maintained contact with them and they visited with her when traveling in this country. She retained her great sense of humor and love of people in her advanced age. She maintained an upbeat attitude and every visit with her was an uplifting experience. She was dearly beloved by all that knew her and will be deeply missed. Mary was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox and UCONN basketball and closely followed their games. Until her retirement she was an executive secretary at Arrow, Hart and Hegeman in Hartford. A generous contributor to charities, she was a long time member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbus and a parishioner of St. James Church in Manchester. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 31st at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. James Church, Main St. Manchester followed by burial in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday May 30th from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Catherine Shea Scholarship Fund, c/o the Manchester Scholarship Foundation 20 Hartford Rd.
