Obituary of Mary Katherine Cavedon

Mary Katherine Cavedon long time Manchester resident passed peacefully in her home on Monday after a year long bout with Cancer at the age of 71. She was born July 10th, 1933 in Medford, MA as the third child of six to Anthony Costa Emerald and Mary Perry Emerald. Mary was part of a very loving and close knit family and has gone to heaven to reunite with her parents and older sister Madeline. She will be sadly mourned by her eldest sister Ruth DeTullio her spouse Ralph of Las Gatos, CA, her younger brother John and Helen Emerald of Houston, TX, and her younger sisters; Nancy Cepas and spouse Henry of Medford, MA, and Susan Starr and her spouse Jerrold of Reading, MA. She is also survived by her friend and companion of many years Roger Langelier. Family meant everything to Mary; she always was a part of her surviving four children�s lives. She embraced their spouses and was active in the care of her grandchildren. Her eldest; Cathy Casali and her spouse Jack of Norfolk, MA, followed by her sons George Cavedon Jr. and his spouse Gail of Glastonbury, CT, William Cavedon and his spouse Pam of Manchester, CT, and Christopher Cavedon and his spouse Darla of Telluride, CO. Mary has been graced with six grandchildren; Daniel, Jonathan and Sarah Casali, Julia and Alexander Cavedon and Lauren Cavedon. Mary always believed in education. She graduated with honors from Medford High school in 1952 and was awarded a scholarship to attend Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Medford, MA. She graduated near the top of her class in 1955. She was married in 1956 to George Robert Cavedon and then pursued career in as a public health nursing in Philadelphia until the arrival of her daughter in 1959. The Family moved to Manchester in 1960 where she became a life long member of the Saint Bartholomew�s church. Her friends in the church meant everything to her. She was active in CCD education, was a member of church�s Saint Gerards Mother Circle and other church functions. Other volunteer organizations that she was involved with include Red Cross Blood banks, Highland Park elementary school PTO and Manchester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. At the hospital, she active with the initiation of a pediatric tour program where prospective young patients and their parents would tour the hospital prior to a procedure to alleviate any anxieties. At the request of Mary there will be no receiving hours. She will be cremated and her family will offer a funeral mass in her honor at Saint Bartholomew�s Church on Saturday May 14th at 11: am. Her ashes will be laid to rest at a later date by the side of her parents in Oak Grove Catholic Cemetery in Medford, MA in a private family ceremony.
