Obituary of Maurice "Archie" Archambault

Maurice Angelo “Archie” Archambault of East Hartford and Coventry, CT entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  Maurice was the husband of Elaine (Kreyssig) for 35 years.  He was born in Woonsocket, RI on August 22, 1931 to the late Sergillius and Cecile (Southiere) Archambault.  He proudly served his country for 35 years from 1948-1983 in the in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and Air National Guard.  He was in the First Marine Division, fought in the “Battle of Chosin Reservoir” and took part in the “Inchon Landing” early in the Korean War.  Later in his military career, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard.  He retired from his military career as a Master Sergeant in 1983.  He was awarded the following special commendations:  Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, and Korean Service Medal.  In 2016, he was presented with the Medal of Gratitude by the South Korean Ambassador to the United States.  Maurice worked as a postman in East Hartford for 40 years.  He loved to spend time in Florida, play softball, watch baseball and football, in particular, the Red Sox and Patriots.  He spent many years umpiring baseball and softball for high school and twilight league teams.  He liked to be outdoors as much as possible, working in the yard, building rock walls, and walking.  Most important to him was family and spending time together. 

 

Maurice was predeceased by his beloved son, Daniel, and leaves five children: Denise Bernard (Chris) of St. Cloud MN, John Archambault (Jeanne) of Coventry, CT, James Archambault (Kathleen) of Webster, MA, Susan Lauzier of Vernon, CT, Sarah Lacasse (Roger) of East Hartford, CT; two step-children: Kimberly Dube (Randall) of Glastonbury, CT and Bradford Cabral (Michele) of Westfield, MA; 13 grandchildren who he loved, supported and rooted on in all of their sporting, musical and other activities, and 4 great-grandchildren.  He also leaves his siblings: Jean Archambault of Leesburg, FL, Bernard Archambault of Enfield, CT, Jeanne Stevens of Colchester, CT, and Pauline Neale of Suffield, CT, and many adored nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his brothers: Paul, Richard, Ronald, Roger and Henry. 

 

Maurice’s family would like to offer special thanks and appreciation to all at Brookdale Buckingham for their compassion and care during the last year of his life. 

 

Due to inclement weather Archie's family will be recieving relatives and friends also on Wednesday December 18th in the morning at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Assumption 27 Adams St. South, Manchester followed by burial with military honors at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
