Ray K. Fike, Sr., 80, of Manchester passed away unexpectedly (May 3, 2005) at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Ray was married to Domenica "Sunny� (Quaglia) Fike. He was born March 14, 1925 to Walter and Josephine Fike in Uniontown, PA. He was raised by his Aunt Anna Jaynes when his mother died at age three. He married Sunny May 8, 1947 and had lived in Manchester ever since. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. Ray was held captive and escaped from a German POW camp. He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired as a salesman from Land O� Lakes 20 years ago and enjoyed his retirement with his family every since. He was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption, where he also "passed the basket� for many years. He could be seen and heard annually singing a Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin song for a number of years in the Knights of Columbus (Council #573) variety shows. He loved boxing and was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan. Besides his wife, he leaves his son, Ray K. Fike Jr. and his wife Carole, his granddaughter Erica and her husband Marco Martinelli and a number of nieces and nephews. Ray enjoyed spending time at the beaches of Stonington and the Cape. His sense of humor and optimistic outlook will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday (May 7, 2005) at 11:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm at the Church of the Assumption, Adams St. South, Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery. Ray�s family will receive friends on Friday (May 6, 2005) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
