Obituary of Catherine Kernan Sheedy

A beautiful soul left this earth for her heavenly home on Wednesday morning, September 18, 2019 at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. Catherine K. Sheedy, wife of the late William John Sheedy, was born in Rockville, CT on February 19,1939 to the late Arthur Sullivan Kernan and Margaret Barbara Hassett. She was also predeceased by her brother Arthur J. Kernan and an infant sister Mary Helen Kernan. She is survived by her step-daughter Tracey Sheedy, step granddaughter Veronica Rivera, cousin Linda Maneggia and husband Bill of Bolton, cousin Patricia Wragg and husband Warren of Arizona, cousin and godson Michael Hassett and wife Lisa of Ashford, cousin Robert Veitch and wife Gloria of Old Saybrook, many other cousins and dear friends.  She earned her Associate Degree in Arts and Bachelor of Science in Education degrees from the University of Hartford. She went on to teach Social Studies at Wethersfield Junior High School for 9 years and was later employed by IBM for over 20 years. Cathy married the love of her life in 1978, and she and Bill remained deeply devoted to each other for 27 happy years. She was a lover of beauty in nature and lifelong scholar with special interests in art, history, and literature. Though she cherished her memories of traveling throughout the British Isles and Europe, Block Island was always close to her heart. Cathy will be remembered by so many for her loving heart, sweetness, and generosity. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A Service of remembrance in which all are invited to participate will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, CT. on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 5 PM. Family and friends may call between 4 and 6 PM.
