Obituary of Sally J. "Bobby" Bergner

Sally J. "Bobby" Bergner, of Manchester, Connecticut died Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Manchester Manor. Born in Yardley, Pennsylvania at the Kellett Farm, she was a lifelong resident of New Jersey. She resided in Hightstown for 18 years then moved to Cranbury, NJ. A job transfer moved her to Connecticut.

She was the daughter of the late Harris Harper Brown and Alice Kellett Brown. She is survived by 3 children, Alice Elizabeth Bergner, Ann Renee Bergner Walsh, and George Joseph Bergner. She also has a daughter-in-law LeeAnn Bergner and former son-in- law Joseph Walsh.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Katherine Bergner Jones Benbelkheir, Evan Joseph Walsh, Emily Ann Walsh, Harrison Harper Walsh, and John Scott Bergner. Two great grandchildren Samantha Benbelkheir and Hannah Benbelkheir.

She has a living sister, Nancianne Parrella, her children Amy and Lisa and 3 grandchildren. She also has a deceased sister Elizabeth Marlyn Hughes who has two living children Joel from North Dakota and Jeff from North Carolina who between them have 5 children and many grandchildren. Sally will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery next to her sister Betty.

She was active in the America Field Service Organization and for one year had Kelo Kriskovich from Paraguay South America live with her family. She always said that was one of the greatest experiences of her life. In 1984, she went to Paraguay for one month to visit Kelo and his family. Kelo is married to Carol and they have three girls and now one grandson.

She was a chaperone in 1967 to Scotland, Ireland and England for one month with teenagers from a group called "Operation Friendship." In 1987, she traveled to Europe for one month with her daughter Ann and visited London, Paris, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.  She stayed with friends in Switzerland who she met through Mettler Instrument.

She worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company right out of high school full and part-time for 15 years. She then worked for Mettler Instrument Corporation in Hightstown, New Jersey for 18 years. Deciding to find a new meaning of life in the work field, she left Mettler and went to work for Chemical Waste Management. After 4 years, she transferred to Waste Management in Connecticut and then moved on to work for the Manchester Housing Authority with many Section 8 clients who loved her dearly.

She was very active working with the homeless. She was a mentor to women in prison, collected stuffed animals for children in shelters, and took yarn and material to the prison for the women to make baby items for shelters and hospitals. Last but not least, she was a lover of cats, two of which will be buried with her.
