Louise Marvin

Obituary of Louise B. Marvin

Louise Bartlett (Lawrence) Marvin, formerly of Manchester, passed away Sunday morning, March 10, 2019 at Touchpoints in Bloomfield. She was with her husband of 70 years, Willard J. Marvin.

Louise was born October 30,1927 in Corning, NY to Dr. Harley W. and Helen B. Lawrence. After attending Syracuse University, she transferred to Rider College, where she met Willard Marvin, her husband. They eventually made a home in Manchester where they raised three boys. While primarily a homemaker and mother, she worked part-time at Travelers Insurance and Sherwin-Williams, as well as spending many years at Marvin’s of Manchester, organizing craft sales and classes before joining her husband in retirement.

She was inspired by creativity, possessed a great sense of humor and had a deep appreciation for ancestry and history, all traits she passed to her children. She and Willard enjoyed travel and took every opportunity to discover new places.  She was an avid reader, a life-long pleasure which sustained her mind well after body began to fail.

Louise is survived by her husband Willard and her children John W. Marvin of Coventry, Christopher L. Marvin and his wife Dianne Neumar-Marvin of Manchester and Thomas M. Marvin and his wife Laurie H. Cleveland of Ellington; her grandchildren Jessica Marvin, John R. and Jill Marvin, Jared Marvin and Jeffery and Meghann Marvin, as well as five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Helen and Stanley Hagerman of Painted Post NY, and by her two grandchildren, John H. Marvin and James Marvin of Coventry. She was also predeceased by her dearest friend and neighbor Gertrude Matthews, whose friendship created one big family out of two.

The family would like to thank the staff at Westside Care Center in Manchester and Touchpoints of Bloomfield for their innumerable kindnesses. The family would like to especially thank Monica whose care and compassion allowed Willard and Louise to live at home as long as possible.

There are no calling hours, and a service will be held in the near future at the family’s discretion.  The John F. Tierney Funeral Home in Manchester has care of the arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com
