My deepest condolences to the family for their loss. May the many good memories you have of William bring you comfort. The God of all comfort sees the tears brought on by the death of our loved ones Psalms 56:8. He yearns to bring back those sleeping in death Job 14:14,15 to a time when sickness, suffering and death will be no more. Revelation 21:4.

Grandpa will be missed by all 4 of his grandchildren - Craig Hublard & Heather Orris
who will always cherish happy times with Grandpa in the pool learning to swim and just having fun with him.
Krystal Francione & Anthony Francione will miss all the family celebrations with Grandpa as well as his attending ice skating practice and baseball games. Though he had lost Nanny when they were only 5 and 3, he was always there for them as a Grandpa. We all Love You. We hope you and Nanny are together again.

Bill was a kind and gentle man. He treated us like family and we were fortunate to have known him and loved him. We will definitely miss visiting with him in Connecticut and Cape Cod. We are happy knowing he is enjoying his afternoon "tiddly" (Manhattan) with Alice by his side.
Our sympathies are sent to Chris for the loss of her dear friend.
We love you Bill,
Jim & Barbara Cortright, FL

Bill - I am going to miss you more than words can say. We shared a very unique friendship and bond that only grew stronger over time.
I will miss our weekly 'dinner dates' and our adventures at the Cape, where we always ended up at Seafood Sam's eating whole belly fried clams.
I am thankful towards the end nothing was left unsaid between us.
Enjoy the journey you have embarked upon, and dance.... dance like no one is watching.
Until we meet again my dear, dear friend. I love you !

My condolences to the Lennon Family on the passing of Bill Lennon. He was a delightful individual with an excellent sense of duty and honor. He was a joy to talk to and always had a smile on his face. He loved his UCONN Huskies basketball teams. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we had from one veteran (Navy) to another (Army). His story is one of the less familiar accomplishments the US Navy did during World War II.
Bill was a Petty Officer 3rd Class. His role was a Pharmacy Mate working under a medical officer and served in the sick bay or dispensary of a ship depending on the situation. He had served in two possibly three different ACORN units while in the Navy. The ACORN units were unique. Major air bases were known as an OAK with smaller air bases about one-fourth the size were known as an ACORN. ACORN units were Aviation construction units with a CBMU unit and a Seabees unit attached to them. They would build and operate small advanced Air Bases as the Allies captured Japanese Islands. His unit built both seaplane bases and fighter bases.
Bill was part of ACORN 44 and ACORN 46. While in ACORN 44 from Dec 1942 to Oct 1944, he was in LIDO Beach, Long Island NY. This was an assembly area for ACORN units and training. In Oct 1944 his medical unit was reorganized to ACORN 46. The training continued until ACORN 46 moved to San Nicolas Island located in the Santa Barbara Straits off the coast of California in Nov 1944.
By February 1945, ACORN 46 had moved to Port Hueneme in Ventura County, California. The ACORN unit picked up their CBMU unit 616, trained and prepared for departure on 14 March 1945. Many boarded the ship SS Sea Marlin, a type of Victory Ship, and sailed for Saipan. They arrived in April of 1945. Once onsite, they took over and maintained the Marpi Air Station on the northern end of the Saipan. Late July and early August, the Marines on Saipan launched their invasion of Tinian the neighboring island. Tinian eventually become the home of the 509th Composite Group that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan.
Seven days after the second atomic bomb was dropped, Bill and the rest of the medical team boarded the USS Monitor. The USS Monitor was an Osage-class vehicle landing ship. The ship took on Bill's team and 1,000 sailors from the battleships Missouri, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and several others. They conducted the first landing on the Japanese homeland on 30 August. The Monitor, by the way, was the second one in its line to take that name. The first Monitor was an Ironclad in the Civil War!!
However, the proudest moments for Bill was when the ship then served as a hospital ship and over 8,000 Allied prisoners of war were received, given medical care, and departed for home on September 1945.
