Obituary of Raymond E. Lavey

Raymond Lavey 96, son of Florence Baker and Ernest Lavey died peacefully on January 8th.  He was born and raised in East Hartford, CT and was married to the love of his life Anne Berry for more than 68 years. She predeceased him on June 11th 2014.

Ray graduated from East Hartford High and proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, making many North Atlantic convoy crossings and was a graduate of the OCS at Fort Trumbull in New London, CT.

Ray served for five years as chairman of the East Hartford Zoning Board of Appeals and did another five-year tenure as chairman of the East Hartford Housing Authority.

His career years were spent in insurance – first as a marketing manager for the Insurance Company of North America and later in the surplus lines branch of that industry. During that time Ray was also a corporator of the Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Ray was an avid golfer and enjoyed memberships at the Manchester, Ellington Ridge and Pinehurst golf clubs

Ray leaves behind four children who profess to having had the ‘best Dad in the world’.  They are: Nancy (Bob) Abraham, Janet Lavey, John (Johanna) Lavey, and Daniel (Pat) Lavey.  He has 10 loving grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and was predeceased by his infant son Mark Benedict and his brother Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 10AM at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford, CT.  Burial services will be private. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you remember and honor Dad in prayer.
