Jean Blain

Obituary of Jean L. Blain

It is with profound sadness that we announce our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Jean L. Blain, 66, has lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, January fifth. She was surrounded at home by those she loved most.

Jean, a longtime Manchester resident, was born April 21, 1952 in Camden, ME to the late Arthur and Dorothea Dority, 88 of Searsmont, ME.  The family relocated to Danielson, CT where Jean graduated from Killingly High School, and Manchester Community College.  Jean spent 34 years working at Manchester Memorial Hospital, finishing her time there as Manager of Transcription in Health Information Management.  In her free time, Jean was always creating, crafting or sewing something.  She was a talented artist who earned the designation of Master Dollmaker and spent 10 years teaching porcelain dollmaking classes and sewing doll clothes for her students, winning several prestigious awards for her work from the Doll Artisan Guild.  Jean was also a gifted quilter and spent 13 years as a member of both Ellington Country Quilters and Tolland Homestead Quilters, serving terms on both boards.  Jean’s favorite place to be was home in her sewing room with her family nearby.

Jean’s greatest accomplishment, however, was as Wife to her devoted husband of 41 years, Paul C. Blain, Mother to her daughters and sons in-law, Jarica and Paulo Golino of Vernon, and Brittany and Joseph Covill of Manchester and beloved Grammie to Charlotte Covill (12), Elizabeth Golino (12), Clara Covill (10) and Isabella Golino (10).  Jean is survived by four loving sisters Rosalie Davis, Christine Bowen, Gloria Blakeley, and Sherry Dority; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She is also survived by her oldest friend, our “Nana” Nancy Grochmal and her husband Stephen, and their daughter Kate Burby and daughter-in-law Allyssa, who have become family.  She was predeceased by her brother Arthur Dority, Jr.
