Obituary of John A. McMeekin

John A. McMeekin, 61 beloved husband of Nancy McMeekin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday December 23, 2018. John was born July 24, 1957 in Santa Monica, CA son of the late Norman Joseph and Joyce (Buie) McMeekin. He traveled as a boy as his dad worked for NASA and Electric Boat, living in Cocoa Beach, FL, then to Groton. He and Nancy raised their family in East Haven, Killingworth and for the last 11 years living in Coventry. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He had worked building Automations for Siemens & Schneider and Harry Grodsky and Co.  He was referred to by family and friends as Captain Mac on their sailing ventures.

Along with his loving wife Nancy he leaves his three children Will, Dr. Christine and Nicole McMeekin, a brother Sam McMeekin of CA, sister in laws and their husbands Terri & Ben Altmannsberger-Zinkerman of Newington, Betty & Frank Iannotti and Eileen & Vinnie Taddei all of Branford and Janet & John O’Dell of Cheshire, close friends Susan & Phil Catullo, Cathy DeFrances & Mike Vittorio and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.  Along with both his parents who passed in 1996 & 1998, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law Bernice Arbegast in August 2018 and William D. Arbegast in April of 2012.

Family and friends are invited on Thursday Dec. 27^th for visitation from 4-7pm at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Friday Dec. 28^th at Noon at the funeral home followed by Military Honors.
