Obituary of Robert Hayward

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert A. Hayward announces his passing on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Hartford Hospital.  Bob was born on October 30, 1933 in South Kingston, RI to the late Theodore Lawton Hayward and Florence Marion Pierce.  He was raised and educated in Rhode Island and served four years in the Air Force.  He returned to the U.S. and was employed at the Ladd School for the Developmentally Delayed in R.I. and then by Mansfield State School, Mansfield, CT, retiring in 1986.

Throughout his life Bob has been an avid and skilled pool player playing in leagues and tournaments and teaching the game.  He practiced every day.  His other favorite activity was chess which he also practiced every day.  Bob was a kind person who enjoyed people and was a patient teacher. 

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary Ann Hayward; daughter Kelly Hayward and her partner Sian of Cardiff, Wales; daughter Kerry Hayward of Mystic, CT; son Michael Hayward and his wife Carolyn of Coventry, CT; daughter Kristen Incandella and her husband Vincent of Myrtle Beach, SC and Bob’s granddaughters Olivia and Sara Incandella who always held a special place in Bob’s heart.  He was predeceased by his infant son Steven, his brother Ronald and his sister Jean.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
