Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Slaiby

Margaret Elizabeth Sullivan Slaiby, 91, of Manchester, the beloved wife of 61 years to Theodore George Slaiby, died Thursday, November 22, 2018 at their home with her family at her side.  Peg was born in Belchertown, MA daughter of the late Cornelius and Lucy (Hanifin) Sullivan and had lived in Manchester for most of her life. She received her Bachelor’s in Education from Westfield State University, her Master’s in education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a 6 year advanced degree in education from Saint Joseph’s University in West Hartford. Both Peg and Ted are long time communicants of St. James Church in Manchester.  She was an elementary school teacher in East Hartford and then an English as a second language and Special Education teacher in the Manchester Schools.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Peter Slaiby and his wife Rejani of Houston, TX, Dr. Jeffrey Slaiby and his wife Marisa of East Greenwich, RI and Barbara Slaiby and her husband Nelson Carter of Lebanon, NH; her grandchildren Theodore “Teddy” Slaiby, Donna Slaiby, Hannah Slaiby, Samuel Slaiby, Thanh Carter and Wren Carter; her sisters Mary Sullivan and Cornelia Sullivan; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her siblings Thomas and Ruth Sullivan. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 28th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester, CT 06040 followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. James Church (Roof Fund) or Alzheimer’s Research Association 3152 Little Rd.
