Obituary of Ida Elizabeth Surprenant

Ida Elizabeth Surprenant passed away in Manchester, CT on October 24, 2018 at the age of 96.  She was the wife of 57 years to the late J. Albert Surprenant.  She was born February 15, 1922 in Hartford, CT to the late Carmen and Angeline Raymond Motolo and was employed for 18 years with the Manchester Board of Education, retiring in 1981. 

Ida was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a court stenographer in the Far East Air Service Command in New Guinea and the Philippines where she went to the banks of Tokyo Bay and witnessed from ashore the signing of the treaty with Japan on the U.S.S. Missouri.

She is survived by her son Steven and his wife Renee of Ashford, CT, 3 grandchildren Timothy Surprenant of Weymouth, MA, Hannah Surprenant of San Antonio, TX, and Erica Gammill of Austin, TX.  Ida also leaves behind 2 great-grandchildren, a sister Marie Lutkenhoff of MI, a brother Francis Motolo of Syracuse, NY along with several nieces and nephews.

Ida enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Those who knew her will miss what came out of her kitchen.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday November 5th at 10:00 AM at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St Manchester, CT with burial to follow at East Cemetery 220 East Center St. Manchester, CT.  Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday November 5th prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6 Waltham, MA 02451.
