Lillian Legier

Obituary of Lillian (Camire) Legier

Lillian (Camire) Legier, 97, wife of the late George L. Legier, died at her home Friday October 12, 2018.

Lil was born on July 26, 1921 in Barre, VT to Arthur and Eugenie (Bisson) Camire. She graduated from Trinity College in Burlington, VT in 1943 and taught high school until her marriage to the love of her life, George, in 1948. The young couple settled in Manchester, CT in 1949 where they raised their family.

Lil was very involved in her community: volunteering in her children’s schools, working on the Assumption school board, being a charter member of the Church of the Assumption Ladies Guild, and participating in the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.  Lil and George were also members of the Manchester Square Dance Club starting in 1964.  Lil was an active member of the Manchester Senior Center where she made many friends and participated in numerous activities including basket weaving, bridge, billiards, bocce, dominos and exercise classes.  Lil also had a love for music which was exemplified by her 42 years of volunteer service with the Manchester Bicentennial Bandshell, the last 23 years as President.  Lil was given the Manchester Hometown Heroes award in 2012 and was inducted into the Manchester Arts Council Hall of Fame in 2002.

Lil is predeceased by her parents, husband George, baby Mark, and brother Arthur Camire.  She is survived by her children and their spouses: Larry and Mary Jo Legier of Rochester, MN; Patty and John Weisbrod of Richmond, VA; John and Sue Legier of South Windsor, CT; Mareli and Bruce Marcellus of Fremont, CA; and Robert and Martha Legier of Sammamish, WA.  Lil is also survived by her sister Theresa Averill of Burlington, VT and numerous nieces and nephews. Lil has eleven grandchildren: Patrick and Katie Legier; Brian, Lisa, and Laura Weisbrod; Kristin and Sean Legier; David and Jennifer (Phillip Peralez) Marcellus; and Mark and Scott Legier.

Lil was a devout Catholic throughout her life attending services religiously, more recently, due to health limitations, watching Mass on TV daily.  She also loved to travel throughout the US, enjoyed playing cards and games, and was an avid Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball fan.

Lil’s family would like to thank her many treasured friends for their kindness, most especially during her recent illness – her friends meant the world to her.  Also, our thanks to Dr. Martin Keibel and his office who cared for Lil for several decades.
