Obituary of Rose Donadio

Rose Donadio, 92, beloved wife of the late Vincent Donadio, passed away at home in the care of her loving family on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Rose was born in Saracena, Italy on November 22, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Anna (Viola) Salvati. Rose came to the United States in 1956 with her first two daughters to join Vincent who had come a year earlier. She lived in Manchester most of the 62 years she was in this country.

Family was everything to Rose. In addition to raising her own six children in a foreign country, without the benefit of a formal education, she also baby sat and cared for 23 other children over the years. She was an unbelievable example of courage and love. Along with spending time with her family, her favorite pastimes were gardening, including constantly pulling weeds, and watching UCONN men’s and women’s basketball games.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Filomena and James Adamik of Manchester, CT, her daughter, Anna Smith of West Chester, OH, her daughter and son-in-law, Lenora and Richard Joerres of Manchester, CT, her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Nancy Donadio of Coventry, CT, her daughter Nancy Quinn of Manchester, CT and her daughter Ellen Donadio of Vernon, CT. She also leaves behind the very special loves of her life, her 10 grandchildren; Benjamin Adamik, Adam, Michael and Andrew Smith, Douglas and Geoffrey Joerres, Nicolle Meade and her husband Jesse, Jason Donadio, Matthew and Christopher Quinn, and her four month old great granddaughter, Ellie Rose Smith. All will greatly miss the special moments they shared with their Nonna.

Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Peppina and Antonette in Saracena, Italy and many relatives here and in Italy. She was predeceased by three sisters and a brother; Raffaella, Maria, Elena and Innocenzo who all lived in Saracena.

The family would like to thank the Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice team, in particular Amy and Felicia, for the compassionate and loving care and support they provided to Rose and our family over the past six weeks.

The funeral service will be held Thursday June 21^st at 10:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in East Cemetery.
