Obituary of Elizabeth M. Peck

Elizabeth (Betty) Berlin/Hurteau/Peck, formally of Willimantic, Manchester and Anaheim California, passed away peacefully Sunday January 27th at the age of 89. Born on March 11, 1923 Betty grew up in New Jersey graduating from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City. She worked on Wall Street before marrying her first husband Richard (Dick) Hurteau and moving to Willimantic. While in Willimantic she was actively involved in politics and it was through politics that she met her second husband Frederick E. Peck of Manchester. Betty had a variety of jobs in Manchester but her main job was raising her blended family of seven children. Betty relocated to Anaheim California in 1976. While in California she worked for Tansamerica, SafeCo Insurance and eventually retired from Attorney Copy Center. Betty returned to Connecticut in 2004. Betty will best be known for ability to talk to anyone about anything and her loving smile. Her most cherished times were the many year's of carefree summers camping at Hammonasset State Park and making her "home" on N. Main St in Manchester. She is survived by her children, Barbara Hurley of Manchester, Michele Hurteau and her dear friend Philip Gravel of East Hartford, Jeffrey Peck and his wife Gail of Manchester, Valerie McCarter of Newington, Jonathan Peck and his wife Patricia of Weatogue, Brian Peck and his wife Elizabeth of Adrian Michigan, Robert Peck of Newington and two special daughters Judy Johnson and her husband William of New Bern NC, and Pat Stenhouse and her husband Michael of Davidson NC, 10 grandchildren, a great grand-daughter and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sister Joan Berlin of Yorba Linda, CA. She is pre-deceased by a daughter Jean Hurteau, her husband's Richard Hurteau, Frederick Peck, and a son-in-law Michael McCarter The family would like to take this time to thank Riverside Nursing Home in East Harford and Masonicare Hospice for the loving care they provided with a special thanks to Suzy, Cheryl, Ivy and Gussi you made her smile every day. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St., Manchester on Thursday from 5-7 pm. Funeral service will follow on Thursday evening at 7 pm.
