Obituary of M. Ernestine Massaro

Massaro (Reardon), M. Ernestine, "Dindy," died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at home with her daughters by her side. Born in Providence on December 6, 1924, "Ernie" was the daughter of the late Ernest B. and Cora (Reed) Donahue. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Corrine and William Capalbo of Cranston, Kathy and Tom Tierney of Manchester, Connecticut, Maureen and Steve McGuire of Warwick; her grandchildren: Billy (Kristin), John (Cinnamon) and Mark Capalbo, Jennifer, Tommy (Jana) and Corrine Tierney, Josh (Tiffany), Todd, and Jack McGuire; her great-grandchildren: Eva and Kai Capalbo, Cora and Jane Tierney, and Kyle McGuire; her cousins: Jane Whelan, Pat Campbell, Doris Housman, and Paul and Vincent Donahue; and her many nieces, nephews and friends. They all loved her greatly and will feel her loss immeasurably. Ernie was a pioneer in the real estate field, enjoying a career of twenty-two years and becoming one of the first women to hold an executive position. As vice-president of DeFelice Realtors (Coldwell Banker), Ernie loved her work and her boss, Thomas DeFelice, who became the son she never had. Gifted with a beautiful voice, Ernie had a number of favorite songs. One was Frank Sinatra's "My Way," which was fitting to those who knew her because Ernie truly did live "a life that's full" and definitely did it her way. Stories about Ernie/Dindy abound. They reflect her absolute zest for life, generous heart, unique approach to living, and intense feeling for those she loved. Tears, laughter and heads shaking in disbelief often follow their telling. In declining health over the past few years, Ernie's life was truly enhanced by the remarkable care provided by the people of both Odyssey Hospice and Health Care Services, especially her beloved "Debbie." A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Rd, Warwick, with burial to follow at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, December 19 from 4-7 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Since children were the light of "Dindy's" life, please omit flowers and consider making a donation in her memory to: The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470.
