Obituary of Anne Gryk

Anne Gryk, age 96, of South Windsor and Manchester, died peacefully on March 11, 2018, at home surrounded by family, after a brief struggle with cancer. Anne was born February 18, 1922 in New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of Adam Bankowski and Josephine (Hrycz) Bankowski.

Anne graduated from New Britain High School in 1939 and Moody School of Business, after which she worked as an Executive Secretary for Mr. Stan Eddy of Eddy Brothers and Company Stockbrokers, Mr. Sheldon S. Roby of New Britain Machine, and Wolvington and Wormwood, Attorneys at Law, of Denver, Colorado.

In 1944, Anne married the love of her life Anthony J. Gryk, and upon his completion of law school, they moved to Manchester, Connecticut. Anne worked at his practice as a secretary and office assistant for many years.

In addition to raising their four children, she also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella (for over 50 years), the Mothers’ Circle, the Manchester Hospital Auxiliary, the Women’s Club of Manchester, the Friends of the South Windsor Library, and the Nathan Hale School PTA. Anne was a member of St. James Church, and an active volunteer for the Ladies of Saint James.

After the death of her husband, Anne divided her time between homes in Connecticut and Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her grandsons Brian Gryk and Adam Timrud. She is survived by her daughters Carol Foster of Miami Springs, Florida, Dr. Suellen Robinson and her husband Wyley of Andover, Massachusetts, and Attorney Evelyn Gryk Frolich and her husband Edward Rowe of Manchester and her son Attorney Anthony J. Gryk, Jr. and his wife Marijane of South Windsor; grandchildren Keith Robinson and his wife Sarah, Dr. Jocelyn Robinson, Nicholas Foster and his wife Dr. Patricia Foster, Krystyna Frolich and her fiancé Jason Scott, Rachel Robinson and her husband Alex Velázquez, Rebecca Foster, Vincent Frolich and his wife Colleen, Jessica Foster and Shawn Gryk; step-grandchildren Matthew and Timothy Rowe; great-grandchildren Matthew and Emily Robinson; and a number of other extended family and dear friends.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 214 West Center Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Anne on Monday, March 19, 2018, at 10 a.m., at St. Teresa of Calcutta Church (formerly Saint Bartholomew’s Catholic Church), 736 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester.
