Evelina Borotto

Obituary of Evelina Borotto

Evelina Borotto passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Ma.
Born in Arzignano, Italy on Dec 3rd, 1923, the daughter of Carmela and Emilio DalMaso, she resided in Italy until 1953 after which she immigrated to Pittsfield, MA where she lived and raised her family. In 1978 she moved to Florida for 10 years, but once her grandchildren were born, she wanted to be close to them and moved to Manchester, CT where she resided for 26 years. In the last 4 months, she had relocated to Brewster on Cape Cod to be near her daughter.
Always known as Lina, she had several professions in her lifetime, including owning two grocery stores along with her husband Peter, as well as being an expert seamstress doing fittings and tailoring. She had many loyal customers who came to her for years because they wouldn’t trust anyone else to do the work she did for them. These professions made her well known in all the communities in which she lived, and many people were able to call her a friend. For her, family was everything, and she looked forward to seeing her children and grandchildren as often as possible, never tiring of cooking their special dishes that “only Nonna could make.” Evelina was an eternally grateful person, always giving as much of herself as she could without asking for anything in return.
Evelina was predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 59 years, Peter Borotto. She also leaves a son Walter Borotto and his wife, Gail, of Gaithersburg, MD, and a daughter Janet Ward and her husband Raymond of Dennis, MA. She leaves 4 grandchildren, Melissa Borotto Blake and husband Jesse Blake of Millstone, New Jersey, Peter Borotto of Gaithersburg, MD, Lindsey Ward of Boston, and Christina Ward of Manchester, CT. She also leaves 2 sisters in Winter Haven, Florida, Maria Pasi and Pia Torra, and was predeceased by a third sister, Tullia Borotto from Pittsfield, MA.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday (1/2/13) at 10:30 from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at the Church of the Assumption followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
