Richard J. Zimmer, III, 73, of East Hartford, beloved husband of 46 years to Theodis (Ricard) Zimmer died Saturday (December 8, 2012) surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Richard J. Zimmer, Jr. and Irene (Claffey) Zimmer. He was a 1957 graduate of East Hartford High School and a lifelong resident of East Hartford. Dick was a veteran of the CT Air National Guard, was past president of the Manchester Kiwanis Club. He was the owner and operator of Zimmer Enterprises. Besides his wife he is survived by his children Richard J. Zimmer, IV of Montana, Christine T. Zimmer Gromiller of Montana, and John R. Zimmer and his wife Colleen of East Hartford; his grandchildren Zion, Sachem, Apollo, Isaac, and Tyrone Gromiller, and Mason and Stella Zimmer; his dog Felina and cat Blue. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Wednesday from 4-8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:15 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester. Burial will be private.
