Obituary of Roger Amirault

Roger L. Amirault, beloved husband of Linda Roux Amirault for 43 years, died peacefully in his home on July 1, after a short illness surrounded by his family. Mr. Amirault was born February 19, 1941 in Hartford, CT, the only son of Lionel and Marie Amirault. He spent his early years in Barton, VT and then moved to Manchester, CT, graduating from Manchester High School in 1959. Following high school, Roger served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963, and was privileged to be assigned to some of the first nuclear submarines, the USS Tang and USS Gudgeon. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Southern New England Telephone Company (now AT&T) in New Haven, Connecticut for 32 years in various technical positions until being promoted to Engineering Manager. He retired from this position in 1996 and several years later moved to Harwich Port, MA, after living in Glastonbury, CT for 18 years. In addition to his love of the beauty of nature, he also very much enjoyed fishing, boating, clamming and baseball. Roger also gained much satisfaction in caring for his home and grounds as well as spending time with family and friends. He was especially admired by his large extended family for his wonderful gift of story-telling and was often surrounded at family gatherings by his many nieces, nephews who were intent on his every word. Besides his wife Linda Amirault, he is survived by his son, Christopher Amirault, his daughter-in-law Jenna Thomas Amirault, cherished grandsons James and Kyle Amirault, of Glastonbury, CT; a daughter, Lauren Rendell and his son-in-law Scott Rendell of Denver, CO. Roger is also survived by four sisters: Simone Calhoun, and her husband William Calhoun of St. Petersburg, FL; Madeline Craft, and her husband William Craft of East Longmeadow, MA; Jeannette Zaglio and her husband Edmund Zaglio of Woodbridge, VA; and Lorraine Gallant, and her husband Jack Gallant of San Francisco, CA as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester on Thursday July 7th from 4-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 8th at 10 AM at St. Dunstan's Church, Glastonbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
