Obituary of Duane Sweet

Duane G. Sweet, Sr., 79, of Manchester, the husband of Avis S. Sweet died Monday (May 2, 2011) at Rockville General Hospital. Born in Monkton, VT he was the son of the late Allen and Laura (DeVoid) Sweet. A US Navy, Coast Guard and National Guard veteran Duane had served during the Korean War era. He had retired from the Willgoos Lab at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1993 after 32 years of service. Duane was an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox, Celtics and UCONN Athletics. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Michele Kenton and her husband Robert of Manchester, Duane G. Sweet Jr. and his wife Nedia of St. Thomas, and Lisa Vrobel and her husband John of Sinking Spring, PA; and his grandchildren Amanda, Lindsey and Thomas Barkley Kenton, Cordell Sweet and Duane G. Sweet III. He is also survived by his siblings Gary Sweet and his wife Gladys, Ronnie Sweet and his wife Faye, John Sweet, Lorraine Bouchard and her husband Bernard, his sister-in-law Pamela Folsom and her husband Lawrence, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Arland and Randall Sweet and his sister-in-law Bonnie Sweet. Duane's family would like to offer a special thanks to the Critical Care Unit at MMH. Funeral service will be held on Saturday (May 7th) at 12 pm from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St. Manchester.
