Obituary of John Talbot

John Talbot, 75, of Stafford Springs, CT, died peacefully at home on Friday, November 16th, with his devoted daughters, Michelle and Sara at his side. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Edward and Anne (Wolfburg) Talbot. John was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a paratrooper and a dancer with the USO where he entertained throughout the Korean theatre. After the war, John continued to cultivate his dancing, excelling at competition and eventually owning a Fred Astaire studio in New York, and teaching ballroom dancing, which remained his passion for the rest of his life. John's last ballroom dance was within weeks of his passing. He made many dear and lifelong friends in the world of dance. For thirty years preceding his retirement he was the indefatigable proprietor of Stafford Stationery. John was also a connoisseur of western lore and memorabilia, assembling a unique collection. He is survived by his beloved daughters Michelle Rogers, of Manchester, CT, and Sara Taylor and her husband Geoff Taylor of Northampton, MA; his granddaughters Emily Richardson of Bel Air, MD, and Ashley Rogers of Vernon, CT; as well as his sisters Carol Glaude and her husband Ronald Glaude of Lady Lake, FL. and Beth Gagne of Canterbury, CT. John had a special gift - a magnetism which drew many to his side. He was a kind, witty, friendly, proud man, and above all, a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. Michelle and Sara are feeling the deepest regret and sadness at no longer being able to enjoy the presence of such a noble, blessed man. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6th at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. Manchester. CT.
