Obituary of Harold Falls
Harold T. Falls, 89, of Manchester, the husband of 65 years to Virginia Norton Falls died Wednesday (November 2, 2011) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Windsor Locks, the son of the late Thomas C. and Isabella (McCullough) Falls, he had lived in Manchester for 63 years. He was a US Army veteran of WWII as a Communication Sergeant serving overseas with Co. F, 172nd Infantry Reg., 43rd Inf. Div. in New Zealand, New Caledonia, New Georgia, New Guinea, Philippines and Luzon. Harold was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge. He enjoyed trips to Ogunquit, ME with his wife, reading, reunions with the 43rd Division, and volunteering as a reading mentor with the Manchester School System. Harold retired from the Traveler's Insurance Co. after 44 years and later was a crossing guard at Center St. and Broad St. in Manchester for 10 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Kathleen Falls and her husband Robert Asch of Groton, MA, and Kevin Falls of Manchester, his sister Mary Rose Ciparelli, two nieces and one nephew. Funeral service will be held on Monday November 7, 2011 at 10:30 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, CT with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at the Church of the Assumption 27 Adams Street South, Manchester, CT followed by burial with military honors in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
