Obituary of Ervin Craig
Ervin D. Craig beloved husband of the late Elta I. (Shaw) Craig and long time resident of East Hartford departed this life on Saturday, January 9, 2010. Born in Easton, Maine on August 14, 1926, he was one of ten children born to the late Andrew and Kathleen (Clarke) Craig, growing up in Fort Fairfield, Maine. He served his country in France and Germany during World War II as a proud member of the United States Army. Upon his return, he met and married Elta, his wife and best friend for 61 years. They moved to Connecticut in 1955, settling in East Hartford in 1958.
After his retirement from the Dari-Maid Milk Company in 1987, he enjoyed traveling with Elta. Their favorite trips were the ones they made to Maine and New Brunswick to visit family and friends. He treasured his days fishing the Miramichi River in Juniper, New Brunswick. A life long Red Sox fan, his dream of a World Series win came true in 2004. Above all else he loved his four boys and their families. They were the joy of his life. He is survived by his loving sons; Major Donald W. Craig (USAF,Ret.) and his wife Dorlane of West Gardiner, ME; David W. Craig and his wife Debra of Newington, CT; Deane W. Craig and his fiancée Cathie Gagne of East Hartford, CT; Dwight W. Craig and his wife Cyndi of Broad Brook, CT; his cherished grandchildren; Andrew Craig of Littleton, NH; Brian Craig and his wife Joanne of Baldwinsville, NY; Elizabeth Craig of Newington, CT; Madeleine Craig, Morgan Craig, and Mason Craig of Broad Brook, CT; his beloved great grandchildren; Alexander Craig and Alaina Craig of Baldwinsville, NY; many nieces and nephews; a dear and loving friend Lorraine Craig of Manchester, CT; his loving brothers and sisters; Phillip Craig of Utah, Sam Craig of Maine, Ruby Wilson of Florida and Avis Schriver of Missouri. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald and sisters; Margaret, June, Pauline, and Annabel.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday (January 16th) at 10 am at South Congregational Church 1301 Forbes St. East Hartford, CT followed by burial with military honors in Silver Lane Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester, CT on Friday from 5-8 pm.
