Obituary of J. Thomas Morrison
J. Thomas "Tom" Morrison of East Hartford passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Tom was 57 years old and was predeceased by his parents, James and Grace (Ahearn) Morrison. Born in West Hartford on November 27, 1960, Tom relocated with his parents to Tallahassee, Florida in 1976. Years later, Tom spoke of the culture shock that accompanied his transfer from West Hartford to Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. Tom, legendary for his dry wit, opined that his high school classmates may have experienced a little shock of their own, once they found a Connecticut Yankee in their midst.
Tom graduated from Lincoln in 1979 and then returned to the northeast, graduating from Providence College in 1983. Tom loved the Boston Red Sox and the outdoors, particularly bass fishing, a pastime to which he was devoted and a passion which he shared with his father, Jay. Tom was no stranger to hard work, spending time in his late teen years working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. After college, Tom's career was in banking, most recently with the Connecticut Economic Development Fund in Meriden.
In 1986, Tom married the love of his life, Jacqueline Crusoe. In 1994, Tom and Jacquie welcomed their twin daughters, Barbara and Grace. Tom, Jacquie and the girls all enjoyed many wonderful summers and weekends in Harvard, Massachusetts, where they had their family time together, but which also gave Tom a chance to take his boat out in pursuit of any bass with the nerve to come near him. Thanks to his children, he became an avid Notre Dame sports fan and spent many fall days cheering on the Fighting Irish at home football games.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jacquie, his daughters Barbara and Grace, of South Bend, Indiana, his sister Anne Morrison Danaher, his brother in law John Danaher, his cousins Moira Ahearn Cohen and Kevin Ahearn, and his four nieces and nephews. Arrangements will be handled by the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester. Calling hours will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, December 15th, at the funeral home. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 16th at Saint Edmund Campion Parish (formerly St. Christopher Church), 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St, East Hartford. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
