Obituary of Jane J. O'Brien

Jane (Gembala) O'Brien, 83, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late George F. O'Brien, died peacefully on December 5th at Vernon Manor Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on February 22nd, 1934 in Tarnow, Poland, daughter of the late, John and Eva Gembala. She came to the United States in 1948 with her mother and six brothers and sisters. She grew up in New Bedford, MA prior to moving to Virginia with her husband. Upon his death she moved to Manchester to be closer to family. She was predeceased by her sister Josephine Dubiel of Sterling Heights, MI. She is survived by her sister Theresa Baszak of New Bedford, MA, Mary Holland and her husband Malcolm of Vernon, Etta Scavotto and her husband John of Manchester; a brother Stan Gembala and wife Jan of Manchester and Ray Gembala and his wife Elaine of Bristol, CT. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and Family may visit Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester) on Saturday Morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM before a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget Church at 11:00 AM. Burial at St, James Cemetery will be private at the convenience of family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.
