Obituary of MaryAnne Odegard

MaryAnne (Squires) Odegard, 73, of Manchester, CT, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, 11/23/17, from her home and with her family at her side, with the assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ. A funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi, 673 Ellington Rd, South Windsor, CT, on Friday, 12/1, at 12:00 noon. The family will be at the church at 11:30 a.m. for any friends who will not be able to attend the service. All are invited to a gathering at the Adams Mill Restaurant, 165 Adams Street, Manchester at 1:30 p.m. MaryAnne was predeceased by her cherished parents, Madeleine and Larry Squires, of the village of Barton in Vermont's New England Kingdom. MaryAnne is survived by her husband, David Odegard, and six children; Heather (Michael) Hazel, Christine (Danny) Huppe, and Lynn Black, all of Hebron, CT, Mark Shaw, of Canton, CT, Jeffrey (Patricia) Shaw, of Los Angeles, CA, and Thomas Odegard, of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Ryan, Emma, and Liam Hazel, Alexa and Tyler Huppe, Chelsea Black (and her husband, Michael Colosimo), Kevin Black, and Meghan and Frankie Shaw. MaryAnne was born January 10, 1944 in Barton, VT, graduated from Barton Graded School and Academy and the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in Burlington, VT. She had a long career in nursing, including the Emergency Room at Manchester Memorial Hospital, several area nursing homes (including Crestfield of Manchester), and at Manchester Ob Gyn for 25 years. MaryAnne was wisdom, kindness, and fun - nurturing many lives in her nursing career and nurturing her husband, her children, and her grandchildren as our beloved "Nana". MaryAnne was devoted to her family and also a devoted citizen - devoted to God and country, the Republican Party, and numerous community services. Perhaps her greatest joy came from days on the beach with her husband and one or the other sets of grandchildren, perhaps family parties, perhaps babysitting. She was just full of the joy that children, old and young, can bring. Those of us who lived with her in our daily lives will have a lasting legacy of boundless love to pass on if we can. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army of Manchester, CT. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home has care of the arrangements; for online condolences please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com
