Timothy Quish

Obituary of Timothy Quish

Timothy Samuel Quish, age 55, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida where he was airlifted after sustaining a head injury. Tim is the son of Raymond T. Quish and Rosalind Turkington Quish of Manchester, both of whom are deceased. He is survived by his sister, Sheleen Quish (spouse: Franklin Mallinder) of Henderson, NV; Peter Quish (spouse: Meg Malone Quish) of Baltimore, MD; Thomas Quish (spouse: Sylvia Kraemer) of Midlothian, VA, nine nieces and nephews, Caroline Raimondo Quish, loving wife of Raymond T. Quish, and his former wife of 10 years, Cary Godbey Turner of Nantucket, MA. He is predeceased by his older brother, Michael T. Quish. Tim was a 1972 graduate of East Catholic High School in Manchester, CT where he was Senior Class president and a star basketball player on the state championship team. The 1971-72 team defeated Harding High School by the score of 45-42 to win the state finals. That year Tim was the second leading scorer on the team with 311 points for almost 13 points per game average. Tim was also a Post Graduate student at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT during the 1972 -1973 school year and was an instrumental member of their basketball team. Accepting a full scholarship to William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tim continued to play basketball and graduated in 1977. Tim's love of life, irresistible charm, piercing blue eyes and ability to create a party wherever he went became the foundation for a lifetime career in the food and beverage industry, where he performed virtually all roles at one time or another. The highlights of his career were the years he worked at The Opera House and 21 Federal where he was known as the "Silver Fox " in the 1980's and in the 1990's when he and his former wife Cary owned and operated one of the most tony restaurants on Nantucket, The Westender, entertaining Nantucket's summer families and celebrities, alike. In 2002, Tim made Florida his new home and became well known in Naples' marquee establishments. He dabbled in modeling, landing in the cover story of Coastal Living magazine in 1998. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. We know he is hosting a wonderful gala in the next life! A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Condolences may sent to his family through John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester, Connecticut 06040 or online at www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.
