Howard J. Thiery, Jr. 93, of East Hartford, beloved husband of 55 years to the late Rita (Burns) Thiery died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Howard J. Thiery, Sr. and Marion (Cadoret) Thiery, and graduated from Bulkeley High School, Hartford. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the 434th Bomb Squadron, 12th Air Group, stationed in the China Burma India Theatre, where he piloted 67 combat missions. He received his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University, and had retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after many years of service as a Mechanical Engineer. In his retirement, Howard tutored math and science at East Catholic High School for 17 years. A communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in East Hartford, he was a Founding Trustee who help build the church. He had a great love for summers with family at Point O' Woods. He is survived by his children; Mary T. Blackwell and her husband Richard of Dracut, MA, Jane T. Adinolfi of Cheshire, Howard J. Thiery III and his wife Erin of West Hartford, Sarah T. Poirier and her husband Michael of East Hartford, and Daniel E. Thiery and his wife Catherine of Stratford, fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and his beloved and magical cousin Jeanne Wooley. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Raymond Thiery, Mary Thiery Race and Robert Thiery. Funeral service will be held on Saturday September 23rd at 9:15 a.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Christopher Campus of St. Edmund Campion Parish 538 Brewer St. East Hartford, CT followed by burial with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
