Carl Francis Rivers, 84, of Manchester, the husband of 57 years to Joan (Minicucci) Rivers died Thursday (August 23, 2012) at Woodlake in Tolland. Born in Plainville, VT he was the son of the late Frank and Emoroy (Baker) Rivers and had lived in Manchester for most of his life. Carl retired from the State of Connecticut DOT Bolton Garage after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Bolton Lions Club for 25 years and enjoyed his family vacations in Vermont. Those that knew Carl also knew him as "The Scatmeister." He also shared a mutual affection with all animals, including moose. Carl could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He had 3 loves in life, his wife and family, deer hunting and his truck. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children John Rivers and his wife Marilyn of Tolland, and Terri Pelletier and her husband Gary of Ware, MA; his grandchildren Jason, Melissa, Matthew, Amanda, Alison and Kimberly; great-grandchildren Amber, Michaela, Kylee, Ethan and Brayden; and one great-great-grandson Kaleb. Carl was one of 21 children, including step-siblings, survivors include Pauline Latulippe, Tena Weston, Ruth Belanger, Frank Rivers and Violet Hunt, and his god-daughter, Barbara Gouchoe. Carl's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Woodlake of Tolland. Funeral service will be held on Monday (August 27th) at 9:15 am from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery.
