Obituary of Bernard F. Boland

Bernard F. Boland, 82, of Manchester died Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Garrity) Boland and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. Bernard had worked at the Hartford Times as a printer for 25 years and at the US Postal Service as a postal worker for 10 years. He was an avid collector or coins and stamps. He is survived by his children; Thomas Boland and his wife Laura of Plainville, Patricia Boland of Manchester, Kenneth Boland and his fiancée Diane Phelon of Manchester, and David Boland and his wife Patricia of California; his grandchildren Christopher and his wife Caitlin, Amanda, Stephen, Michael, Joseph, Brian, Matthew and Samantha; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Green, the mother of his children Ruth Graham; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Tanya and his companion of 25 years Virginia Herzog. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd at 12:30 p.m. from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery East Hartford.
