Obituary of John Luby

John "Jack" Luby, 72, of Manchester, beloved husband of Agnes "Bridgie" Luby, died on Monday (August 20, 2012) surrounded by his family. Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, September 21, 1939; he is pre-deceased by his parents John Luby and Marianna (Banas) Luby and his brother William Luby. While raising 5 children, Jack earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Connecticut, Masters Degree from the University of Hartford, and earned the designation Certified Public Accountant. Prior to retiring, Jack worked as head of internal audit at Ogden Corporation in New York. He was an active parishioner and communicant of the Church of the Assumption in Manchester. Jack was generous with his time, volunteering at the Manchester Senior Center, AARP, and Choices. He also enjoyed blackjack at the casinos, British television, and UCONN basketball. Dad was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family, especially by his wife, Bridgie, the love of his life and partner in crime. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers Paul Luby of Smithtown, New York, James Luby of Vero Beach, Florida; his sons & daughters John & Kelie Luby of South Glastonbury, Michael & Amy Luby of Manchester, Suzanne & Tim Ahrens of Franklin, Massachusetts, William & Corrine Luby of Glastonbury, Dr. Marie Luby of Glastonbury; and his ten grandchildren: Mackenzie, Samantha, Cecelia, Jack, Noah, Samuel, Lily "babydoll", Anna, Johnny, & James. Calling hours are Friday, August 24 from 4 - 7 p.m. at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 29 South Adams Street, Manchester, CT. Friends are asked to proceed directly to the church that morning.
